Richard Guyton Obituary

Born in Springfield, Ohio July 6, 1923 to Homer Joseph Guyton and Helen Tavenner Guyton, Richard "Dick" A. Guyton, M.D., succumbed to influenza on January 7, 2018.
Dick is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Mildred "Millie" R. Guyton and five children, Dr. Daniel (Anne) Guyton of Akron, Ohio; Paul Guyton of Brattleboro, Vermont; Pamela Grassbaugh of Roswell, New Mexico; Leslie "Dody" (David) Dannaher of Galena, Ohio and Jeffrey (Randi) Guyton of Cologne, Germany; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Wittenberg University and attended Western Reserve University's School of Medicine where he graduated in the class of 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict, ultimately being stationed at the Army hospital in Yokohama, Japan. For his service, Dick received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1953, he moved to Akron to establish his practice in Internal Medicine and Cardiology in association with his close friend, Henry Kraus, M.D., in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. In 1974, Dick accepted a position at the B.F. Goodrich Company where he served as Vice President and Medical Director for worldwide operations, retiring in 1992.
Dick and Millie were delighted to have been part of a close-knit circle of friends, neighbors and colleagues who enjoyed hosting lively dinner parties at their home. The couple made several rewarding trips to Europe, Asia and South America.
He was an avid reader, music lover, and automotive enthusiast, owning more than 50 different cars during his lifetime.
The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to all the friends and caregivers who helped improve his quality of life over the last two years. Special thanks are reserved for the staff at Renaissance of Richfield/Bath assisted living center, and to all the in-home aides who cared so lovingly for "Dr. G."
At his request, there will be no funeral services. Donations can be made in the name of Dr. Guyton to the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Mayo Clinic - ADRC, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905. Please write "Dr. Richard A.
