Josephine W. Anikeeff
Josephine W. Anikeeff (née Obroslinski) 100, of Akron, Ohio passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on January 13, 2018, 15 days before her 101st birthday.
Josephine was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 28, 1917 to Teofil Obroslinski and Aniela Biernat Obroslinski. She attended the University of Michigan.
Married in 1942 to Alexis Michael Anikeeff, Josephine and her husband met as childhood friends introduced by their older brothers, both members of the same Boy Scout troop in Detroit.
Happily married for 54 years, Jo and Alex traveled widely across the United States, Europe, and the then Soviet Union. Prior to moving to Ohio in 1968, they lived in several other states including California, Maryland, and Michigan. Her husband, a professor at the University of Akron, predeceased her in 1996.
Josephine had a real estate practice in La Jolla, and Carmel, California. On moving to Akron, she continued her practice earning an Ohio real estate broker's license.
Josephine was active in the Akron University Women's Club, The League of Women Voters, and the Braewick Circle Garden Club. As garden club member, Josephine worked with the city to ensure the well known Braewick Circle Christmas tree would be continually tended and lighted for the enjoyment of the Akron Fairlawn community.
In addition to her love of the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James, scratch-off lottery tickets, bingo games, and current events, she actively embraced technology, enjoying her pink Apple iPhone to keep in touch with her family and friends of all ages.
She will be remembered for her optimism, warm sense of humor, keen intelligence, and love of nature.
She is survived by her brother, Frederick Kukla of Farmington, Michigan; her son, Michael A. Anikeeff (Laurie Stroope) of Baltimore, Maryland; daughter, Pamela Tatiana Anikeeff of Washington, DC; and son, Gregory A. Anikeeff (June Parry) of Akron, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren.
Josephine's wish was that her ashes be combined with those of her husband and their urn interred. Although there will not be a memorial service, Josephine would like for you to remember the many good times, to be happy, and to enjoy life.
Josephine had a favorite charity, The Anikeeff Prize, a merit based award given annually for the best socially responsible real estate development thesis at Johns Hopkins University.
