Bernice Virginia McMullen

Bernice Virginia McMullen "Bea", 92, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 6, 2018.

She passed away in the family home with her loving husband, Tom and family at her side. Bea was born to Leavinia & George McCall on February 28, 1925 and grew up in East Franklin Ohio. She attended Coventry High School and graduated from the University of Akron in 1947, and later received her Master's in Special Education from Kent State. Bea began her teaching career as an English teacher at Springfield High School in Akron. During her 35 years as a teacher, she lovingly taught hundreds of hearing-impaired children throughout the Akron area and including East Cleveland's Mayfair School and Mason Elementary, Goodyear Jr. High School, East High School and North High School in Akron Ohio. Bernice was a member of Christ Methodist Church and was also involved in Witan, Alpha Gamma Delta and Alexander Graham Bell Association.

Bea is survived by her husband of 71 years, Thomas McMullen and their 3 children, Kathi Petty (Jeff) of Bennett Colorado, Gini Thompson (Cliff) of Akron, Thomas 'Tommy' McMullen (Suzie) of Akron; six grandchildren, Eric Poulson,
Danny Poulson, Carrie Poulson-Messick, Erica Thompson-Zajaczkowski all living in Grand Junction Colorado, and Emily Thompson and CJ Thompson in Akron; and four great grandchildren in Grand Junction Colorado.

Bea was the heart and soul of her family and friends and she will be greatly missed!

Services will be held 2 p.m. SUNDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., where friends may call from 12-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Thomas P. McMullen Jr., P.O. Box 5209 Fairlawn, OH 44334, Chairperson for the 5-year reunion in 2019, for hearing-impaired people from NE Ohio, many of whom were students of Bernice. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
